Murder suspect in court

The man charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Rockwood woman appeared in a Guelph courtroom Wednesday.

Police arrested Xhevahir Myftari, 36, of Rockwood in Mississauga Tuesday afternoon after a woman was found dead inside her home on Gamble Lane Monday night.

The victim has been identified by family as 40-year-old Julie Vlashi. Police say the two were known to each other and say the man lives in the home where the woman was found.

Myftari’s lawyer would not confirm rumours that he was the victims brother-in-law and that he is being treated for mental illness.
