Halton Police have concluded their investigation into a murder Friday night, after a son allegedly stabbed and killed his father during a fight in a house on Guelph Line late Thursday night.
The father and son share the same name, Wesley Nagel. Just before 10:30 pm , police say the younger Wesley stabbed his father, who ended up dying in hospital a short time later.
A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was located inside the home.
Someone in the house at the corner of Guelph Line, and Woodward Avenue in Burlington, called 9-1-1 at around 10:30 Thursday night, to report a stabbing.
Sgt. Chantal Corner is with Halton Police. “When police responded there were two males in the residence, one of them was a 62-year old male named Wesley Nagel, and he suffered some stab wounds and he was transported to hospital.”
He was taken to Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital first, and then to the Hamilton General where he died. His son, who is also named Wesley Nagel, was arrested at the scene, and has been charged with second degree murder.
According to Halton Police, both men had been living in the basement of the rooming house for the last month. Prior to that, according to the younger Wesley Nagel’s Facebook page, he had been living in a nearby motel and needed money from his grandmother to keep a roof over his head.
Two Facebook posts from September show a strained relationship between father and son. The younger Wesley wrote “pretty fed up with the way things are going right now. thnx a lot dad!”
A week earlier he posted “so tomorrow I will be back on the street again, thanks to my wonderful father! Peaches and cream, ain’t life grand.”
Police won’t speculate how negative Facebook posts allegedly escalated to murder, but are asking for input from friends and family members.
Sgt. Corner appealed to the public. “If there is anybody who has any information about this family, about the situation, to contact the Halton Police homicide unit.”
