Mubarak quits; crowds cheer
Protests have turned into celebration after embattled Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down.
The move follows 18 days of protests, which became more intense after Mubarak’s speech Thursday – an address in which he defiantly vowed he would not give in.
Earlier Friday, Mubarak and his family left Cairo for a resort town. Not long after that, Vice-President Omar Suleiman announced on state television that Mubarak has handed over control to the military.
