Most GO Transit fares to rise; UP Express to drop

Metrolinx will review plans this week to increase most fares for GO Transit riders while giving anyone taking the Union Pearson Express a break.
The Metrolinx board is expected to decide to increase fares for all but the shortest GO rides by about five percent at their meeting on Thursday.
Presto users will get a bigger discount though, 11.5 percent instead of 10 percent off the regular fare.
The new rates would take effect in February.
Meanwhile, with the Union-Pearson Express only carrying about half as many people as hoped for this year, it’s expected kids 12 and under will be able to ride free, while a return adult fare will drop $9 to $44.
Other discounts for families and airport workers are also planned.
