Most Canadians unhappy with air industry’s COVID-19 response

A new poll finds airlines aren’t winning much favour from Canadians.
72 per cent of those surveyed say they’re not comfortable flying since the decision to end “seat distancing” on commercial flights.
The “seat distancing” measure was put in place to ensure physical distancing to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Air Canada and WestJet both ended the policy on July 1.
Airlines are required to make passengers and air crews wear masks while on board.
Meanwhile, another airline move is proving equally unpopular.
Many have refused to fully refund tickets for flights cancelled due to the pandemic, instead offering vouchers.
Canada’s Transport Minister Marc Garneau has been called on to force the airlines to refund cancelled trips.
But he has refused saying it would cripple the industry.
72 per cent of those polled say they totally oppose this decision.
It’s unclear what the travel and airline industry will look like post-pandemic.
The sector has lost more than 90 per cent of its revenue.
Of those polled, 85 per cent say they have no plans to travel outside the country by the end of the year.
