Firefighters in both Hamilton and West Lincoln had a busy night dealing with a series of rural fires.

It began around 11 pm Sunday when firefighters were called to a fully involved barn fire at 9438 South Chippewa Road in West Lincoln.  Tankers from both Haldimand and Hamilton were called into provide support with hauling water to the rural location.

While returning from that fire, the Hamilton tanker crew came across another barn fire around 12:30 am at 6081 Trimble Road near Hall Road.  The large barn only contained hay and no injuries were reported but the Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to investigate.

Niagara Regional Police also alerted West Lincoln firefighters to a smaller fire in an isolated barn east of 9032 South Chippewa Road around midnight.

Three weeks ago there were four suspicious barn fires in the same area, and there are also concerns a fire in an abandoned farm house in Stoney Creek on Sunday morning might be connected to this series of fires.
