Premiers call about long-term care

The state of long-term care homes in Canada will be discussed today during a call between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the premiers.
A Canadian Armed Services report brought to light allegations of insect infestations, aggressive resident feeding that caused choking and cases of staff failing to isolate COVID-19-positive patients in four Ontario homes troops were deployed in.
Now, Ontario is taking over the management of five more long-term care homes battling COVID-19 outbreaks.
Premier Doug Ford says the province will be conducting “extremely rigorous” inspections of the homes, as well as 13 others facing challenges.
He says he will also be doing random spot checks across the province and is fully prepared to shut down any facility if deemed necessary.
