More arrests made in St. Catharines nightclub shooting

Niagara police have made more arrests in connection with a shooting at a St. Catharines nightclub last year.

Four men and two women were rushed to hospital after being shot at Karma nightclub on St. Paul St. last September.

Niagara police and members of the Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit executed multiple search warrants on Mar. 30 and Apr. 2 and arrested four people.

Dalton Meikle, 42, from Thorold is facing numerous charges including accessory after the fact, accessory after the fact to commit indictable offence, and careless storage of ammunition. He also faces several drug-related charges.

Jayson Hypolite, 30, from Stoney Creek is now charged with counselling to commit in addition to previous charges of obstruct peace officer, and accessory after the fact.

Rhiannon Blackie, 29, from Stoney Creek is charged with obstruct a peace officer.

Cheniece Batticks, 26, from Thorold is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police previously arrested three others in connection with the shooting.

Saeed Savalanpour, 33, and Jamar Stephens, 29, are facing several firearm-related charges including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Kaitlan Miller, 26, is also facing several gun-related charges.

Police say the most recent arrests conclude a six-month-long investigation into the shooting. In total, nine people were arrested and 97 charges were laid.

“The conclusion of this investigation highlights the dedication and persistence of our investigators who worked to ensure the safety of our community. As stated following this incident, violent acts such as this will not be tolerated in our community. I am so very proud of the tireless efforts of our officers to investigate this senseless act of violence,” said Niagara Regional Police Chief Bryan MacCulloch in a news release.

Police also thanked York Regional Police Service, Toronto Police Service and Hamilton Police for their assistance throughout this investigation.
