Monkey Kingdom is a nature documentary produced by Disneynature and directed by Mark Linfield (Chimpanzee, Earth). Tina Fey narrates the film which follows a family of monkeys in the jungles of South Asia.
Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful monkey in Disneynature’s new feature film Monkey Kingdom. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya’s whole family relocates, and she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to lead them to untapped resources amid strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings.
You can expect to see some hijinks from the film’s simian stars. Jane Goodall, who is a Disneynature ambassador and leading expert on primates, explains the macaques’ behaviours. “Macaques—like the baboons that we study in Gombe, as well as chimpanzees—are very curious, very entrepreneurial. They’re not afraid to try something new. They can be mischievous, they clearly have fun and there can be aggression when it comes to protecting their territory. There’s always something happening. I think that’s what makes them such great personalities to film.” Fey’s narration helps bring out the humour in the monkey’s lives. “Tina really brings great comedic timing to the story,” director Mark Linfield says. “These animals certainly have tough times, but overall, there’s so much humor in their day-to-day lives, and Tina brings that out beautifully.”
Monkey Kingdom is rated G.
