Moncton shooter sentence expected Friday

The man who shot five Mounties, killing three of them in Moncton in June, could be sentenced to the longest prison term in recent history on Friday.

Before his hearing wrapped up Tuesday morning, Justin Bourque apologized to the families of the Mounties.

He then admitted that saying sorry is “almost useless”.

Constables Fabrice Gevaudan, Douglas Larche and Dave Ross were killed during the Moncton shooting spree on June 4th.

Bourque faces a mandatory life sentence, but the judge will have to decide when he will be eligible to apply for parole.

The Crown has argued for a 75-year sentence, but the defence is calling for 50 years.
