Skateboarders may sometimes get a bad rap but one cambridge skater has certainly changed that idea in a big way. The 20 year old skater helped a 6 year old girl at a park a couple of weeks ago and his actions are now being talked about everywhere. A public thank you letter to the skater from the mother of the girl has gone viral.
This is the photo of six year old Peyton Thomas and 20 year old Ryan Carney which took the internet by storm. Both from Cambridge. When Peyton arrived at this skateboard park wanting to practice, she was tentative and nervous. Ryan took notice. “I just saw she needed a helping hand and if that were me at that age, I would totally wish that someone would do that for me so I just wanted to reassure her that she belongs at the park. ”
Peyton’s mother was watching from afar and was pleasantly surprised at Ryan’s gesture. She guessed Ryan to be about 15 years old. She posted a public thank you on social media and sent her letter to a local newspaper. Especially since other skateboarders were ridiculing Ryan for helping the girl. She wanted Ryan’s parents to be proud of him. Other parents in the area say they’d feel the same way.
Ryan says people shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. “There’s tons of other skateboarders that would do the same thing. She caught on right away, she understood how to stand and balance, so I have no doubt she’ll be a great skateboarder. I want to thank the mom for reaching out in such a large way.”
Jeanean says Peyton left the park with a sense of pride and confidence because of Ryan.
