Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion has thrown her support behind one of the candidates trying to fill her shoes.

On Sunday McCallion announced that she’ll be voting for Bonnie Crombie in the upcoming municipal election.

The retiring mayor called Crombie young and ambitious, and says she has new ideas for the city.

Crombie says she was surprised by the endorsement, and considers McCallion a role model.

The 93-year-old has held the mayor’s chair in Mississauga since 1978 and has been re-elected 12 times by voters.
