Metrolinx is testing new safety measures for GO Transit customers.

The transit agency is adding plastic seat dividers on GO trains and buses as well as new one-way aisles and doors on trains.

Metrolinx says this is all part of a pilot project aimed at ensuring the safety of its riders.

The plastic dividers will be installed on five GO trains and 30 GO buses this summer.

Meanwhile, new signage is being put on some GO trains to pilot one-way doors and aisles.

Metrolinx says the goal here is to keep people moving through the train while limiting contact with fellow riders.

It will evaluate the pilot project and decide whether or not it will be expanded.

These measures are being done in addition to others aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.

That includes midday cleaning, daily disinfecting and employee screening.

All Metrolinx employees wear face coverings and riders are encouraged to do the same.
