Metrolinx boss not commenting on GO crash driver

The head of Metrolinx remains tight-lipped about reports the driver of a GO bus that crashed Wednesday night had just returned from a leave of absence.

The bus was on its way Wednesday night from Hamilton to York University when it crashed through a guardrail on Highway 407 in Vaughan. Radika Nankissoor, 56, a custodian at York University, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metrolinx president & CEO Bruce McCuaig told CHCH News “I don’t want to compromise the investigation that will be going forward other than to say that whatever the outcomes of the investigation will be looking at very, very carefully.”

The 66 year old bus driver has been released from hospital, but is not facing any charges at this point. He had 15 years of experience.

McCuaig did say they would make enhancements and improvements to GO’s system if the investigation reveals they are needed. Provincial police are conducting a mechanical examination of the bus, and have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
