Men posing as security system salesmen in Niagara
Niagara Regional Police are warning the public about men posing as security system door-to-door salesmen.
Police said they received two complaints in the last week about men pretending to be “ADT” sales representatives.
Police suspect the men were casing homes to get a layout of the interior and exterior, to find out if there is an alarm system and see if there are animals. Police say the information could then be used for a break and enter.
Residents are being advised that they should never let a salesperson into their house based on the person’s word. Residents should always ask for a main office number and schedule an appointment if interested in a product. Police said a legitimate company representative would be happy to give out an office contact and company information.
If anyone is approached at their door by a salesperson claiming to be from ADT, they can call the company to confirm. The number is 1-888-263-1748.
