Medical episode likely cause of fatal Burlington crash

A sudden medical episode may have led to a fatal crash that claimed the lives of a Burlington couple earlier this month.

Natalie and David Black died on July 2 after their vehicle plunged into Lake Ontario from Burlington’s La Salle Park.

Bystanders and first responders tried to rescue the couple but were unsuccessful.

Halton police Cst. Ryan Anderson said the Collision Reconstruction Unit found no defects with the vehicle that would lead to a loss of control or collision.

Investigators said a health condition may have played a role in the crash.

“Medical factors may have contributed to this incident and the coroner has listed a medical condition involving the heart (of the male) as the cause of death on the preliminary report,” said Anderson. “Drowning is confirmed to be the cause of death for the female passenger in the vehicle.”

Anderson said police do not suspect foul play.

They will not be disclosing what the exact medical condition was due to privacy reasons.
