Mediator appointed to help CUPW and Canada Post reach settlement

The federal labour minister says she hopes a third-party mediator will help Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers reach an agreement. Hon. MaryAnn Mihychuk announced yesterday, that a mediator would be stepping in to help the two sides in negotiations.
This comes after CUPW issued a 72-hour notice of job action yesterday, just hours before a strike mandate was set to expire at midnight.
The notice puts Canada Post workers in a legal strike position by 11:59pm EST on Sunday. This could mean mail delivery disruption as early as Monday morning.
The two sides have been embroiled in a bitter labour dispute for more than nine months, and are apparently still far apart on key sticking points which include age discrepancies and changes to Canada Post’s pension plan.
Back in July, there was almost a work stoppage before the two sides agreed to a two-month extension on talks.
