News of cutbacks in the media industry seem to be announced weekly.

The Guelph Mercury, one of the oldest newspapers in the country, is the latest casualty.

The paper’s final edition will be printed on Friday.

The Hamilton Spectator is financially doing well with more readers than it has ever had in it’s history.

100 thousand paying subscribers and million who read online

The Mercury said its real estate publication, called Guelph and District Homes, and its lifestyle magazine Guelph Life would continue as a printed product.

The end of The Mercury’s print edition will put 23 full-time staff and three part-time employees out of work and will leave the burgeoning Southwestern Ontario city without a daily newspaper.
