McMaster researchers study the causes of ‘Long COVID’

Scientists at McMaster University are conducting research on the long-term effects some patients suffered from after they recovered from COVID-19.
The Government of Canada is investing $500,000 in this study. The funding will allow scientists to understand if COVID-19 triggers immune responses that cause chronic symptoms and potentially increase the risk of future diseases like lupus. The team will track 120 patients with long-haul symptoms.
Researchers say up to 15 per cent of Canada’s 1.4 million COVID-19 survivors continue to suffer symptoms, such as breathlessness and brain fog, six months after they recovered.
