The Ontario government is spending millions of dollars towards research funding at Hamilton’s McMaster University.

The province announced Tuesday morning that Mac researchers more will get more than $5.6 million to fund 3 projects.

One team of researchers will work to develop technology for sharing diagnostic and medical images among health care providers.

The McMaster advanced control consortium will provide mathematical models and technology to Canadian companies focusing on sustainable process operations.

The third project will be to develop a device capable of sensing contamination in water, and transmit the information wirelessly to health officials.

McMaster’s Herb Schellhorn said “surveillance, and more broadly speaking, identifying the types of microorganisms that can cause the degradation of water quality is a goal that is important for developing countries…and also for Canada which has a rich water infrastructure.”

This money will be paid out over five years.
