McGuinty wants more wage freezes
The governing Ontario Liberals are going after other public sector workers in his crusade to freeze pay and cut into the province’s $15 billion deficit.
Dalton McGuinty says he won’t back down on his demand to freeze compensation as his government negotiates with civil servants, whose collective agreements are about to expire.
He says the province may not be able to get a pay freeze through negotiation and is prepared to legislate if need be.
The Liberals are already unpopular amongst some provincial employees as they have introduced a controversial bill for teachers ahead of the new school year. In that bill it would legislate a wage freeze as well as cut benefits, such as bankable sick days.
