Today, the torch was passed from Leafs’ forward John Tavares to centre Auston Matthews.
Matthews was officially named the team’s captain on Wednesday, taking over from Tavares, who has held the title since 2019. In addition to this shakeup, the Leafs are also preparing for their first season with new head coach, Craig Berube.
