Mark Carney to be sworn in as Prime Minister Friday, reveal new cabinet

As Mark Carney prepares to be sworn in as Canada’s Prime Minister Friday morning, he is expected to bring in a new and smaller cabinet.
Carney will be sworn in as prime minister at Rideau Hall after winning the Liberal leadership race last weekend.
His first cabinet is expected to be smaller than outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s 37-person team.
Just before 11 a.m. Carney posted on X that his cabinet will indeed be smaller, and experienced.
Today, we’re building a government that meets the moment. Canadians expect action — and that’s what this team will deliver. A smaller, experienced cabinet that moves faster, secures our economy, and protects Canada’s future.

The portfolios of some positions could be combined and several ministers may be taking care of more than one portfolio.
Those playing key roles in Canada’s response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war will be in Carney’s new cabinet.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne, Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Public Safety Minister David McGuinty will most likely keep their jobs.
While Public Services and Procurement Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and Health Minister Mark Holland will not be returning.
Trudeau formally resigned as prime minister during a visit to Gov. Gen. Mary Simon Friday morning.
He posted on X at around 8:36 a.m. thanking the country for his time as prime minister.
Thank you, Canada — for trusting in me, for challenging me, and for granting me the privilege to serve the best country, and the best people, on earth.
