Maple syrup festival kicks off

Westfield Heritage Village held their annual Maple Syrup Festival today.
While the weather was cold, it didn’t stop families from heading outdoors to enjoy the festival and the sweet treats it had to offer.
This year’s harsh winter is actually ideal for trees to produce sap. Cold weather overnight, followed by a slight thaw in the morning helps create a high fluid pressure in the tree, which helps force the sap out.
The Maple Syrup Festival runs every Sunday until March 30.
