(Updated) It was 10:30 on Labour day morning when violence erupted on King street. A male was taking to hospital with a stab wound.
Police won’t say much more about the circumstances at this bus stop, but HSR employees confirmed the victim was a bus driver.
Police cleared Jackson Square, some coffee shops and restaurants had been open despite the holiday, and several IT workers had been in the office tower. But all were kept outside as police combed the building with canine support.
“It’s not our belief (that he is inside), but we have to ensure public safety due to the proximity of where it happened.” said Staff Sergeant Mike Spencer.
Police aren’t sure why the man was attacked.
“At this point we believe it to be a random act, but we’re not that far in the investigation yet”
Before 2pm the mall re-opened, but the suspect remained at large.
The suspect police are looking for is described as:
- a black male,
- 5-foot-8,
- in his 30’s,
- with a stocky build;
- last seen wearing a blue or purple dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up,
- dark coloured running shoes and jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Hamilton Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
