Fire departments from two municipalities worked together to free a man who was buried alive while working on a drainage pipe for a home in Burlington. He was working about seven feet down a hole when it suddenly caved in, covering him head to toe in dirt, sand and mud. A co-worker quickly shoveled debris from his head, luckily the un-supported hole stayed intact

A neighbour called 911 and Burlington fire arrived in minutes along with the Mississauga fire department because they have portable bin filled with tools made for trench specific rescues. The team cut out wood barriers preventing the hole from another collapse. Then before fire fighters were ready to lift him to safety the man dug himself out of trouble. While covered head to toe in dirt, he escaped without injury.

The Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate the incident.
