Man in custody following assault at north end home: Hamilton police

UPDATED
Hamilton police say a man has been taken into custody following an assault at a home in the city’s north end.
Police responded to a house in the area of Munroe and Hillyard streets around 2 a.m. Friday.
Officers located a 26-year-old woman who had escaped from the home suffering from minor injuries.
Police learned the suspect was inside the home and a firearm may have been used during the incident.
Hamilton police tactical officers and crisis negotiators were called in to assist.
Shortly after 7 a.m. police say they spoke with the suspect and a short time later he exited the home without incident.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault, utter threats, and fail to comply probation.
Through the investigation, police determined a firearm was not involved in the incident.
The man has been released from custody and is expected to appear in court on July 2.
