Man hit and killed by Niagara Falls GO train bound for Toronto

A GO train travelling from Niagara Falls to Toronto’s Union Station has been cancelled after a man was struck and killed by a train Wednesday.
Emergency crews responded shortly after 1:30 p.m. to the area of Merritt and Walnut streets near the St. Catharines GO Train station.
A spokesperson for Niagara EMS says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lakeshore West train departed from the Niagara Falls GO Train station at 1:09 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Union Station at 3:27 p.m.
It says train service cannot resume until the investigation is complete.
Emergency crews and investigators are currently at the scene.
A spokesperson for Metrolinx says a GO Bus was available for all 38 customers aboard the affected train.
