Man from canal death identified

Police have now identified the man recovered from the Welland Canal this past weekend.

The body of 26 year old “Arnoldo Arias” of Thorold was spotted Sunday afternoon in an overflow basin, south of “lock seven”, near the recreational walkway.

Police said Monday they don’t consider his death to be suspicious, but they are continuing to investigate, and they want to speak with someone who was with Arias around 1am Sunday.

Investigators say the two men were in the Front and Clairmont Street area at that time.

The individual is described as a 19 to 23 year old man who may go by the name “Jordan.”
