Man fights for his life after fire

A 51-year old St. Catharines man is fighting for his life in hospital tonight after he was overcome by smoke that filled his west end apartment.

The fire started in the upper apartment at 30 Hamilton Street in St. Catharines.

Downstairs neighbours Kenneth Farmer and his mother heard the smoke alarm going off just before 11 Sunday night. Kenneth knocked on the victim’s door and
the man whose name he says is Barry told him ‘he had it all under control’. Minutes later, smoke was spreading through the building.
