In an update Sunday, police said that the driver and their two passengers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Both directions of the expressway were closed for several hours while officers from Hamilton’s collision reconstruction unit investigated the matter.

The roadway was reopened on Sunday morning.

It remains unclear why the man was on the expressway and police say that the investigation remains ongoing.
