24-year-old Junaid Nizami is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Mario Rodgers. Nizami asked the judge to release him from custody on bail until his trial can be held.

Nizami has been in custody since December 2021 and is asking to be released on bail. Rodger’s family said they’re prepared if he is released.

Mario Rodgers was killed early in the morning of December 13th last year. Police said he was intentionally struck and killed by a car.

CHCH News can’t report details of the bail hearing because of a publication ban. It will continue next week. Nizami remains in custody in the meantime.
