Man charged after SUV lands in Lake Ontario

A young man now faces impaired driving charges after driving his SUV straight into the icy waters of Lake Ontario.

It happened early Saturday morning in the Spadina and Queen’s Quay area.

Police say the driver of the Mercedes SUV is 19-year-old Hang Jiang.

Jiang managed to escape the sinking vehicle and witnesses threw him a life ring to help get him to shore.

He was sent to hospital to be checked out.
