Man arrested in Burlington for human trafficking

Halton police have arrested a North York man following a human trafficking investigation.

Officers responded to an “unknown problem” at a hotel in Burlington on Wednesday.

When they arrived on scene, they found a female victim who wanted to speak with police about her involvement and exploitation in the sex trade.

Police say a man fled from the scene before officers arrived but was captured a short time later nearby.

Amir Mehrani, 46, has been charged with procuring by exercise control, withholding or destroying documents, trafficking in persons, and material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Halton Police Service Drug and Human Trafficking Unit is continuing the investigation.
