A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a convenience store employee in Niagara Falls was threatened by an armed thief.

Police responded to reports of a robbery at a store in the area of Dorchester Rd. and Thorold Stone Rd. around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators learned a man had entered the store, grabbed a frozen drink and proceeded to the front counter.

The man then pulled out a knife and threatened the employee. Police say he demanded the staff member hand over cash from the till.

The employee activated an alarm which caused the thief to flee the store with only the frozen drink in hand.

The worker was not physically injured during the interaction.

Officers arrived on scene but did not locate the suspect.

On Monday afternoon, officers in the area Lundy’s Lane and Drummond Rd. recognized the suspect from security footage and arrested him. Police say the man was still wearing the same clothes from the night of the robbery.

They say officers found stolen items worth $110 in his possession from two nearby stores.

Mark James Adair, 27, has been charged with robbery and theft under $5,000.
