Man arrested after 5-hour standoff with Niagara police

A 32-year-old man is facing several charges following a five hour standoff with Niagara police.
Officers were called to a home near Ferry and Main streets around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a domestic disturbance.
A woman had fled the home before police arrived but a man was still inside.
The Emergency Tactical Unit and the K9 Unit were called in to assist because of the “unstable nature of the incident.”
The scene was held for several hours while police negotiated with the man. He was arrested at 12:30 a.m. Thursday and is charged with assault, and fail to comply with probation order.
The woman was taken to hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Niagara police are not releasing the name of the 32-year-old man in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim.
