Man, 91, charged in death of elderly pedestrian struck on Hamilton Mountain

Police have charged the 91-year-old driver who struck and killed a 77-year-old pedestrian on the Hamilton Mountain on July 25.

Officers say the crash involving an SUV happened shortly after 10 a.m. on July 25 on Fennell Ave. near Upper Wellington St.

Initial reports indicated that a 77-year-old man did not have vital signs. However, emergency crews identified a pulse when they arrived at the scene and found him on the ground with a walker.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in unstable, life-threatening condition and would succumb to his injuries the following day.

The 91-year-old driver remained on scene and did not sustain any injuries.

Following an investigation led by the Collision Reconstruction Unit, the 91-year-old driver has been charged with careless driving causing death.
