Man, 33, charged after Niagara police seize illegal drugs during traffic stop

Niagara police have arrested a 33-year-old man after finding suspected fentanyl and cocaine in a 2019 Toyota Camry late Friday night.

Police say they conducted a traffic stop in St. Catharines on Carlton Street near Shakespeare Avenue.

Investigators say they saw an open alcoholic drink in the car’s cup holder when they were speaking to the driver. They directed the driver to get out of the vehicle and also saw two clear plastic bags of suspected cocaine and fentanyl.

Officers then arrested Roshawn Eric Palmer of Toronto.

Investigators searched the vehicle and found $1,245 in Canadian currency that is believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of crime.

Palmer is facing charges for possession of cocaine and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and failure to comply with release order.

Police say Palmer was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

The accused was held for a video bail hearing that took place on Saturday at a Hamilton courthouse. He was remanded into the custody of Ontario Correctional Services.
