A 32-year-old man has been arrested after fires were set at two businesses in downtown Hamilton.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, crews were called to a fire at the Grey Harbour Tattoo Parlour at 161 James St. North. Police say the flames spread to La Bichette which is located next door.

Firefighters quickly extinguished both fires and no injuries were reported.

Just moments later, police were alerted to another fire on the back patio of Born and Raised restaurant at 224 James St. North.

Officers arrived on scene and were able to put the fire out on their own.

A suspect was identified and arrested in the area of Bay St. North and York Blvd. just before midnight.

Daniel Pritchard, of no fixed address, has been charged with three counts each of arson – disregard life, arson – damage property, and fail to comply probation.

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted and will be attending the scene.

The total damage caused to the businesses is estimated at $100,000.

Police are now investigating if there is a connection between Tuesday’s fires and recent fire investigations in the city.

Two vacant houses caught fire Monday night on Wilson St. near Emerald St., and early Monday morning crews were called to Cannon St. and Emerald St. for a similar fire.
