You’re going to notice some major changes the next time you visit a McDonalds. In an effort to give customers a new dining experience the fast food giant is introducing a “build your own burger” menu and added table service.
This is how your next trip to McDonald’s will go, you order from a large touch screen kiosk, either a regular menu item, or a create your own taste option where you can build your own burger. When you’re done, you have a seat. The team in the kitchen starts putting together your order piece by piece and then your food will be brought right to your table.
Glen Steeves owns 11 McDonald’s restaurants in Hamilton, he says the changes have created 200 new jobs in the city. By the end of the year, a thousand of the 1400 McDonald’s in Canada will have the create your own taste menu.
Marvin Ryder from the Degroote School of Business says McDonald’s was feeling the pressure from it’s competition.
“That’s what we expect to see in this industry, a knockem down drag them out fight for the consumers and everybody is looking for a little edge to get ahead.”
While there is still traditional ordering at every McDonald’s restaurant, by the end of May you’ll be able to try the new kiosk system at 22 different locations in the Hamilton area but you won’t see them at the Walmart locations.
