Major ice storm hits region

A major winter storm has hit portions of southern and eastern Ontario, including Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area. As much as 10 to 15 mm of more freezing rain is possible today.

Ontario Provincial Police Constable Graham Williamson told CHCH that despite the slippery conditions, the number of collisions are typical for a Sunday. There are no reported serious injuries or highway closures.

Environment Canada is warning people to take the following precautions:

  • Make sure you are safe before assisting others
  • Watch television or listen to the radio for information from authorities and follow their instructions
  • Stay put until all is safe or you are ordered to evacuate
