Major Fire in Downtown Grimsby

A major fire in downtown Grimsby is now contained.

It started at 1:15 pm this afternoon at the exterior of an hair salon building on Main st East. It quickly spread to neighbouring buildings and many businesses and residents had to be evacuated. There were no injuries but 2 historic century old buildings have been heavily damaged. The cause is still under investigation by the Fire Marshall.

Fire fighters remain on scene and roads in the area will continue to be closed tomorrow and in to the weekend.
