Mailbox construction breaks gas line

Hamilton’s fight to get control over where Canada Post is installing its super-mailboxes has taken a new turn after workers broke a family’s gas line.

The Woolcott family on Scenic Drive hasn’t had gas since Friday morning — meaning no heat or hot water.

Canada Post and Union Gas say the line wasn’t on maps because it was privately installed, but the Woolcotts say they shouldn’t have to pay for the repairs, and want to know when it will be fixed.

Hamilton is taking Canada Post to court on May 25 over its refusal to apply for installation permits that the city says would help protect both public and private property.
