MADD Canada is urging everyone to plan ahead for a sober ride

With 2023 right around the corner, MADD Canada is urging everyone to drive sober or to plan ahead for a safe ride home.
“However you are celebrating this New Year’s, if alcohol, cannabis or other drugs are being consumed, please plan ahead for a sober ride home,” said Jaymie-Lyne Hancock, MADD Canada National President.
“We can all help keep our roads, communities and one another safe.”
In an announcement, MADD Canada said that hundreds of Canadians are killed, and tens of thousands are injured every year in collisions involving alcohol and drugs.

The organization sent out a friendly reminder to never drive while impaired, never ride with an impaired driver, and call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.
People that are going to holiday parties and are planning on drinking or consuming cannabis are advised to take public transportation, arrange a designated driver, or plan to spend the night.
On the other hand, party hosts are asked to have lots of food and non-alcoholic/low alcohol drinks available. Serve drinks to monitor how much the guests are consuming, don’t serve alcohol to guests who are already intoxicated and be prepared to have intoxicated guests spend the night.
“If you get behind the wheel impaired, you are risking your licence, your freedom and, most importantly, your life and the lives of others,” Ms. Hancock said.
“This can all be avoided by spending a few minutes to plan your sober ride home.”
