It was the series finale that was being dubbed “the end of an era.” After 7 seasons, AMC’s “Mad Men” aired its final episode last night. Sean Leathong looks at a show that had an impact well beyond the small screen and don’t worry, no spoilers.

Staring in 2007, over 92 episodes Mad Men pushed it’s way to the forefront of popular culture. Winning 4 Emmy’s for best drama and making stars out of it’s cast, none bigger than John Hamm.

For the show’s fans, the end of Mad Men was the end of an era. Chris Farias is a creative director at Advertizing Agency Kitestring and easily related to the show. “It’s my industry. It’s my life. My business grew up on the show.”

He says that the influence was so wide spread because the advertising world is one where creativity is dependant on human relationships and experience.

While the look and feel of 1960’s New York has turned Mad Men into a marketing vehicle in it’s own right. “Because Don Draper drank whiskey which is very common in the 60’s, people have re-discovered brands and for segrums, Canadian Club which had been a flagship brand for years has suddenly become hot again and trendy.”
Says Marvin Ryder.

But of course the show will live on, through re-runs and fans “and I can always think, what would don draper do in any situation, which is great haha.” Chris Farias.
