Harry Potter fans gathered at McMaster University today, to take part in a “Quidditch” match, and compete for the Marauders Cup.

The popular game played by wizards in the Harry Potter series came to life three years ago at Mac.

Today, teams from various universities competed in the tournament, scoring points, and chasing after the magical “golden snitch”, all while running with brooms.

While players don’t have training from the book’s “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”, they do enjoy making the fantasy game a reality.

“I was very fascinated with this. I love the books and just became fascinated with how you could take a fictional game and turn it into something real. The sport is very competitive and it’s great to be around,” says team member Jessica Donat.

The game is even more popular in the U.S., and the McMaster team hopes to increase its popularity across Canada.
