LTC Commission finds overcrowding & staffing shortages led to death, government slow to act

The Independent commission that was looking into Ontario’s long-term-care homes says the province was unprepared for this pandemic thanks to years of neglect and failing to learn from the SARS epidemic nearly two decades ago.

The commission finalized the 322-page report where it conducted interviews including Health Minister Christine Elliott and long-term care minister Merrille Fullerton.

It concluded that facility design is flawed and resident overcrowding heightened sickness and deaths along with staff shortages. The report was submitted to the province tonight.
