Two people – two very different interpretations of what was said and promised at a meeting this morning at Queens Park.

Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger emerged from the closed door discussion claiming the premier had committed to an unlimited amount of funding to build light rapid transit in the city of Hamilton.

“We’ve got a firmer commitment on funding numbers than we’ve ever had before.”

But hours later, the Premier had a different version of what the province was willing to spend.

“We’re committed to building rapid transit with Hamilton but it will be in partnership with Hamilton. I can’t tell you that the number Hamilton comes forward is the number we will go with.”

Even the commitment to LRT is questionable. while Eisenberger claimed the province fully supported that mode of transport, Wynne never once used LRT when speaking about the meeting.

Is the city any closer to building LRT?
Not according to one city councillor. In fact Sam Merulla called today’s meeting – much ado about nothing. He called todays meeting and announcement – political nonsense and said he’ll believe the province is truly committed to LRT when he has the cheque in his hand.
