Lowbanks garage fire keeps crews busy Monday

Fire crews in Lowbanks spent the later part of Monday afternoon trying to control a blaze at a garage just outside Dunnville.

More than 30 firefighters and a number of trucks including the aerial pumper responded to the fully engulfed garage around 3:30 p.m.

The garage has a residence above it. No one was home at the time.

Firefighters were investigating the possibility there were explosive materials on site as crews heard loud, popping sounds.

They say the weather hampered their response to the blaze. They are expected to be at the scene till later Monday evening.

There is no estimate yet on the amount of damage to the building and no cause for the blaze has been released.
