A St. Catharines court heard today that Loujack Cafe, the man accused of killing 82-year old George Burnett, befriended Burnett’s granddaughter on Facebook a year prior and then contacted her after Burnett’s murder.

24-year old Vanessa Burnett told the jury she accepted his request after a mutual friend said Cafe was “an ok guy”.

She said Cafe, who went by the name “Seville” on Facebook, messaged her after Burnett’s murder to ask if she was related to him, and told her he was Burnett’s neighbour.

She told the court he gave his condolences and said he would not be able to attend the funeral. The after the funeral he sent her another message giving her his number.

“He said we should go out for a coffee possibly and I said no, I wasn’t interested.”

She never met him in person and didn’t speak to him again.

The last few days Loujack Cafe has been sitting back in the prisoners box but today when Burnett’s family was in the courtroom he was leaning forward and had his body angled in their direction and every so often he turned around to look at them.

The court was shown graphic photos of Burnett, some that were taken by police the night they found him dead, and another that police found online uploaded to Cafe’s hotmail account.

Bloodstain expert Scott Collings compared the photos and noted the similarities which include a newspaper, tv remote and what he calls “a distinct blood pattern”.

When questioned by defense lawyer Christopher Hicks he couldn’t say where Burnett was when he was first attacked or how many attackers there may have been.
